Presented by Sue Hewgill Peterson sharing her life experience as dancer, choreography, teacher, adjudicator and ballet shop proprietor. Trained at Elmhurst Ballet School and Royal Ballet School. Taught at DanceIn Studio, Queen Margaret’s School, Royal Ballet Junior Associate Programme in the UK, Carolina Performing Arts Center and Sarasota Ballet School in the USA, and summer schools in Spain and Isle of Man.

We will cover all aspects of fitting and purchasing the best pointe shoes for your individual needs.

We explore how to correctly sew your ribbons to protect your ankles and Achilles tendon.

You will learn strengthening and foundational pointe technique exercises at the barre.

The 4 Week Course

● Videos of pointe shoe best practices. 

● Discover how many pointe shoemakers there are available to you and which will suit you best. 

● Virtual pointe shoe fitting if required with expert fitting from world-renowned pointe shoemaker. (Personalised arrangements.) 

● Instructions for ribbon sewing/darning pointe shoes. 

● History of, and the making of, pointe shoes and how to read the backs of shoes 

● Feet strengthening exercises. 

● Week to week sharing of assistance with preparation of shoes.

Information

Course Content

  1. You will learn how to safeguard yourself and how to strengthen your feet so that you will feel comfortable in your shoes. 

  2. You will preferably start at week one without your shoes (unless you have already purchased them). 

  3. We will discuss how to find the best shoes for your feet. Looking at toe length/ width of feet. We will see how to enhance your feet and find the best shoes for you. 

  4. We will work together to protect the satin of your shoes and make them safe. Also, how to sew on ribbons to your advantage and wrap them around your ankle and secure them to protect your ankles and Achilles’ tendon.

You Will Need

  • Mercerised pink cotton/thread. (available from dancewear shops) 

  • Pink Ballet ribbons: We will discuss which type. 

  • Simple white cotton/thread for sewing on ribbons and possibly elastic. 

  • Darning needles curved and straight.

How To Apply

A Four-week course lasting one and a half hours each week. A suggested number of four to six dancers on each course along with the teacher if desired. (Six hour CPD Certificate available)

Ensure you have full permission from your Ballet teacher to attend.

Each weekly meeting will be carried out on Zoom and you will be sent a Zoom code to be accepted into the meeting. 

£25.00 or $35.00 per week per student, payable in advance.
